Glasgow 2014 needs hosts in local homes

A golden opportunity has arisen for welcoming locals to make key a contribution to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Shortages in accommodation in Glasgow have meant that host families for guests and volunteers are now being sought in Cumbernauld and Kilsyth by an international sports organisation called More Than Gold.

The group has been helping find host accommodatiom since the 1996 Olympics. Although it has a Christian slant, neither guests nor hosts need to be Christian to participate.

Cumbernauld and Kilsyth are thought to be a particularly good fit for the scheme as they comfortably fit into the one hour journey time from each major venues.

A spokesman explained: “Hosts are needed for the Athlete Family Homestay Programme from Sunday, July 20 toThursday, August 5 and for the Volunteer Homestay Programme from Sunday, July 13 to Thursday August 5th 2014.

“Hosts will be expected to host a guest for ten consecutive days during one of these two time periods.’’ he added.
