Glasgow's green champions head for awards finals

Nine Glasgow firms are among the 38 Scottish companies chosen as finalists for the 2017 VIBES '“ Scottish Environment Business Awards.

The scheme recognises and rewards the achievements of Scottish companies to reduce their impact on the environment.

The businesses include; 3f bio Ltd, CircoSense Ltd, City Building, Glasgow Women’s Library, GRAHAM Construction, Jacobs, Jaw Brew, FairSquaredUK, and WASPS Ltd.

3f bio Ltd has been shortlisted for the Innovation and Micro Business categories for its use of a natural fermentation process to produce protein.

FairSquaredUK, an online market platform that allows suppliers of fast moving consumer goods with excess stock to quickly connect with a network of buyers across the country and beyond, has been shortlisted for the Innovation and Micro Business categories.

CircoSense Ltd, shortlisted for the Environmental Product or Service and Micro Business categories, uses patented cognitive technology to learn buildings hot water usage patterns in order to identify potential energy savings.

GRAHAM Construction, specialising in construction, asset management and project investment has been shortlisted for the Management (Large) category for its commitment to carrying out their business in a safe, sustainable manner.

The company was previously awarded the Management (Large) award in 2014.

City Building, presented with the VIBES Energy Award in 2011, has been shortlisted for the Management (Large) category for its commitment to environmental compliance.

Glasgow Women’s Library, the UK’s only accredited museum dedicated to women’s history, and WASPS Ltd, a charity that provides affordable studios to support artists and arts organisations, have been shortlisted for the Green Team and Micro Business categories.

Jacobs, shortlisted in the Transport category, provides technical, professional and construction services to companies and organisations, including industrial, commercial and government clients. The company was a finalist in this category last year.

Jaw Brew, which brews craft beers, has been shortlisted for the Circular Economy and Micro Business categories for their beer made from bread.

Gillian Bruce, chairwoman of the VIBES Awards, said: “VIBES is dedicated to recognising companies which have taken significant steps to reducing their environmental impact.

“Over the 18 years since the first VIBES ceremony, we have seen entries from businesses of all sizes and sectors, highlighting the range of businesses supporting Scotland’s sustainable development.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Edinburgh in November.
