Glowing report for tech-savvy Isobel Mair School

The Newton Mearns school received a glowing report from Education Scotland’s HM inspectors in August this year, with ‘excellent’ grades for three of the inspection categories.

Inspectors also praised the school’s dedication to recognising pupil achievements, as well as its 50 Things To Do Before You Leave Isobel Mair board, including outdoor activities like cycling, power boating and orienteering.

Head teacher Mari Wallace commented: “We’re thrilled that the school has been recognised as an example of innovative practice by Education Scotland.

“It is testament to the hard work of our practitioners, parents and partners who helped us achieve such a positive outcome at our last inspection.

“We hope this inspires other schools and centres for children with addtional support needs to use the amazing ICT technology and advancements in communication aids to benefit learners.”

Graeme Logan, Education Scotland’s strategic director for school years, visited the school to congratulate staff and pupils.

He said: “Our inspectors found that there is strong focus on helping children develop their communication skills and they are a pioneering example by their innovative use of a wide range of ICT and communication aids that is positively impacting on learners.

“They are going above and beyond to achieve positive outcomes by giving pupils the tools to communicate and get actively involved in their lessons and activities.”
