Citizen’s Theatre in Glasgow.

Kathleen Hamilton, chair of the Citizens Society, organised a prize draw in 2015 to raise funds for the theatre’s £20.5 million redevelopment campaign.

She was overwhelmed with the response from generous supporters who helped her to reach nearly £10,000.

The proposed redevelopment of the Citizens will offer greater public access, the preservation of the Victorian auditorium and unique staging equipment - as well as dedicated learning spaces and new public spaces in the foyer and front of house.

Kathleen (83) from Coronation Way in Bearsden, said: “We are all very excited about the plans for the theatre, including a new glass front.

“Our beloved Citizens has been in poor physical condition for some time.

“We see the Citizens as the home of great theatre in Glasgow and our aim is to promote drama and theatre throughout Scotland.

“We aspire to be the most exciting and adventurous theatre producing building and we want to be firmly part of the community.

“The Citizens Theatre is here to entertain as well as encourage creative potential in the field of performing art.

“We have a fantastic outreach programme which teaches drama to kids who start off very shy but they learn to speak in front of others and find confidence.

“Our aim is to get people back to theatres again to enjoy the thrill of seeing live perfomances.”

“It was our pleasure to help raise this money and all credit and thanks to my fellow members for coming out in all weathers to help out.”

Members of the Citizens Society, which celebrates its 73rd anniversary this year, sold tickets throughout the Citizen’s 2015 Autumn Season.

The cast of the Citizens Theatre’s latest production, Endgame, lent a hand to pick the winners of the 2015/16 prize draw after the show on Thursday, February 11.
