Grant available for flood victims

SOUTH Lanarkshire Council has been allocated £40,000 from a £4m Scottish Government grant scheme established to support those affected by recent storms.

The funding can provide each household, business or charity directly affected by flood water with a flat rate grant of £1500.

At a meeting of the Council’s Executive Committee councillors were told that the Roads and Transportation Flooding team had been working closely with those affected over recent months, ensuring that homeowners and businesses were aware of sources of support.

The Council has a number of existing financial supports in place to help mitigate the effects of flooding on local communities.

These include business compensation grants and council tax exemption which can be accessed under specific circumstances.
