Grow your own open day

MANSEWOOD Allotments is having a party — and you’re all invited.

The allotment association hosts its annual open day on Saturday, selling produce to take home and at the cafe, as well as offering plot tours, children’s activities, competitions, tool sharpening and a raffle.

The charity Froglife will be at the wildlife plot and plotholders will be on hand to share their expertise and experiences.

Hilary McCafferty, of the allotments association, told The Extra: “Our open day is a key point in the gardening year and always well attended.

“The allotment site was increased three years ago to reinstate some 20 new plots which have been developed dramatically in that short time.

“We maintain the wildlife plot, and also a community plot, which is used by Tinto primary and Mansewood community centre with assistance from allotment volunteers.”

The open day runs 1-4pm on Saturday (August 11) - to find out more visit the Mansewood Allotments website.
