Hallowe’en isn’t a treat for everyone

As children across the country look forward to a night of trick or treating, new research shows not everyone is excited.

Online estate agents eMoov.co.uk surveyed 1000 homeowners and discovered that 72 per cent will not be opening the door to tiny terrors tonight.

Of that 72 per cent, 37 per cent said it was because they didn’t like Hallowe’en, while 21 per cent, and mostly younger people, said the dark nights meant they wanted to keep the door closed for safety reasons.

However nine per cent revealed that they won’t be opening the door because they just didn’t like children.

Russell Quirk, founder and CEO of eMoov.co.uk said: “It’s a shame so many people are against Hallowe’en. Despite its dark connotations, it is really just a chance for the kids to have a bit of fun.

“But you can understand why opening the door to strangers can pose a potential safety issue.

“Funny that it is those at the younger end of the property spectrum that are worried about their safety in the dark, you would think they would be the ones giving as good as they got with a Hallowe’en scare.”
