Hampden dog lovers on the hunt for potential forever homes

The southside group have saved the lives of hundreds of street dogs in the Balkans, volunteering their time and money to save strays and bring them back to the UK to find them “forever homes”.

Founder Sandra Stosic Milne has been part of a long battle to gain the group charity status.

She said: “It has been such a relief to have BU and all our hard work recognised.

“Each member and all the volunteers dedicate so much their time to finding the dogs and getting them to safety in the hope that they will be offered a forever home.”

Being awarded charitable status means the Balkan Underdogs can help more dogs like Cupka (pictured).

Left for dead by her owner, Cupka was dropped off at an animal shelter and when she escaped, trying to go home, she was hit by a car. She turned up at her old home, only to be dumped again at the animal shelter.

Balkan Underdogs have helped Cupka with her surgery after the accident, ensuring she has all her vaccinations, and is microchipped and spayed.

Now she is ready to be rehomed, along with many other dogs which the charity have helped to rehabilitate.
