The grenade was found at the back of a garage.

Police set up a road block and taped off the area until the bomb disposal experts arrived from Edinburgh.

“It was a real grenade and the bomb disposal team, after searching the garage in case there were any more grenades lying about, took it away to dispose of it,” said a neighbour.

It is the second time in a week there has been police activity in that area, just up from Castlebank Park.

Last Saturday morning St Patrick’s Road, the next street down, was taped off after two stolen cars were abandoned at either end of it, one completely burned out.
