The illustrated guide includes information about what residents can expect from the council repairs service as their landlord, and their responsibilities as tenants.

A “Handy Hints” section features advice on how to protect your home from condensation and frozen pipes, how to clear a blocked waste, how to test a smoke alarm and how to reset a trip switch.

Councillor Sam Love, convener of housing and social work services said: “Tenants told us that repairs is an area they are keen to have more information on. Results from our recent customer satisfaction survey showed that 72% viewed the repairs service as a top priority.

“This new booklet will help assist our tenants in identifying and diagnosing some minor repairs that may be required from time to time within their homes. It will also help our repairs team and contractors to have the correct tools and materials on hand when they visit properties.

“We aim to ensure that tenants receive the best possible repairs service and issues are resolved to their satisfaction as quickly as possible.”

The handbook was developed by the council in partnership with the North Lanarkshire Federation of Tenants and Residents Association.

It also includes guidance on who is responsible for what across all types of repairs and situations, information for tenants on the ways to access the service and wider housing support.

Electronic copies of the handbook are available by visiting www.northlanarkshire.gov.uk and anyone who hasn’t received a copy through their door should contact 0800 678 1166.
