Have your say on plans to improve Govanhill

Plans to improve housing, the environment and community safey in Govanhill are being distributed to residents, with events held in the new year to allow all to have their say.

A multi-language factfile on the efforts of Glasgow City Council and the Southside Central Area Partnership throughout 2015 is being distributed in the hope of increasing community engagement.

The file includes three major projects announced this year; a 9.3 million Govanhill Housing Association scheme to buy 80 privately-let properties and bring them into the public sector, the designation of Govanhill as an Enhanced Enforcement Area (EEA) and more CCTV coverage to be monitored by Community Safety Glasgow.

Councillor Soryia Siddique, chair of the area partnership, told The Extra: “These projects will complement the wide range of additional resources already dedicated to the Govanhill community, including the Govanhill Hub, the dedicated rapid response cleansing team and dedicated community enforcement officers and Police Scotland officers.

“To mark these innovative projects and share info on the projects already underway, we have developed the Govanhill Community Factfile, and will be making copies available in community facilities in the area.

“We will also be launching a programme of three community consultation events in the new year, looking at the Govanhill Action Plan.

“Residents will be asked to consider the proposed actions in workshops focusing on the themes of housing, cleansing and community safety.”

The events take place on January 26 at Cuthbertson Primary, February 10 at St Bride’s and February 25 at Holyrood School, each 7-9pm.

All are welcome to attend, and you can RSVP at [email protected] or at Govanhill Library, the Neighbourhood Centre on Daisy St or Govanhill Workspace on Dixon Road — creche facilties will also be made available.
