Kirkfieldbank Community Group has arranged a meeting, in Kirkfieldbank Community Hall, on October 2 from 2pm until 7pm.

The old playpark in the village was demolished several years ago to make way for the new primary school, and although money has been made available from South Lanarkshire Council and Community Gain, the total is far short of what is needed to provide a playpark and fully restore the remaining green space so that the whole community can benefit.

Kirkfieldbank Community Group, composed of local residents, is looking to fundraise and so obtain match funding to make up around £120,000.

It is proposed that this will be used to build a playpark for all ages and needs, an outdoor gym, outdoor children’s learning area, a community garden and a football pitch, with improvements to the perimeter path.

However, all this is still in the early stages, and the public are now invited to the consultation meeting to share their views, talk to the group and look at sample plans.

“The redevelopment of Kirkfieldbank Park, which is situated in the centre of the community is a unique opportunity to create a tremendous asset for the residents,” said Susan Hamilton, who chairs the community group.

“It will have something to offer all age groups. It is perfectly situated, adjacent to the primary school.”

And Karen Bruce, acting head teacher at the school, welcomed it.

“It’s a privilege for the school to be involved in the consultation process and development of the area,” she said.

“We are very excited at the prospect of having a playpark on our doorstep and there is already a buzz starting as word is spreading around the village.”
