Have your say to help capture local history

People are being asked to decide on 11 new trails that will be the culmination of a two-year Trails and Tales project.

Hundreds of people from across the district have come together at events run by the East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture Trust to help capture and immortalise stories from local history.

The ‘Trails and Tales’ project, focuses on the rich and varied past throughout the area and the 11 trails will reflect this and provide a focal points to ensure the lasting legacy of the project.

Trust chair, councillor Anne Jarvis, is hopeful that as well as those already involved in the project, the exciting prospect of helping develop an outdoor trail will attract new blood.

She said: “Please consider coming along to hear about the findings from the Trails and Tales community activity programme, even if you didn’t manage to be a part of it.

“Developing these outdoor trails and deciding their location will be an exciting opportunity for people to contribute to this popular and fascinating local heritage project.”

Evening consultation events run from 7-9pm and are being held over the summer at various locations, with one having already taken place in Lennoxtown.

The events promise to be fun and relaxed, with refreshments provided.

These include: Baldernock and Torrance: Wednesday 27 July in Caldwell Halls, 16 Campsie Rd, Torrance, G64 4BN; Bearsden, Milngavie and Westerton: Wednesday 17 August, Milngavie Library, Allander Road, Milngavie, G62 8PN; Twechar: Thursday 18 August, Twechar Healthy Living Centre, St John’s Way, Main Street, Kilsyth G65; Kirkintilloch and Lenzie: Tuesday 20 September, William Patrick Library, 2-4 West High Street, Kirkintilloch, Glasgow G66 1AD; Bishopbriggs and Auchinairn: Wednesday 28 September, Bishopbriggs Library, 170 Kirkintilloch Roadd, Bishopbriggs, G64 2LX.

The initiative is a pioneering project which aims to explore the past and blend history, culture and the great outdoors together and make it relevant to people of all ages. As well as uncovering and rediscovering old stories and tales, the aim is to create a series of walking trails across the authority and establish an arts and heritage learning website.
