Have your say today on Lanark Castlebank Lottery bid

They are being asked to turn out today (Thursday September 17) to support the bid by Lanark Community Development Trust for funds to turn the building into classroom and gallery space at their new horticultural centre opened last year in the park.

Survey forms are available in the doctors’ surgery and library, and on line on the Trust website, but today there is a consultation session in Lanark Tolbooth, from 3pm to 8pm, to let people see the plans and make comments.

It is a drop-in event but with presentations on the plans at 4pm and 7pm.

The Trust, working with local groups, has already converted the smaller building into toilets for those involved in restoring the park, and turned the derelict tennis courts from a dump into growing area with raised beds, and two huge polytunnels to bring plants on, one for teaching and one used by Lanark in Bloom.

Now it is competing for Lottery funding to turn the larger sawmill building, little more than a wreck at the moment, into teaching and gallery space and the public are being asked for their views, whether they would use it, and whether they could see it being used as a community hub.
