Helen’s big ideawins major award

A Cumbernauld woman has won a top design award for her groundbreaking bid to help people suffering from dementia.

Helen Karwot developed a mobile music workshop called Pulse which aims to create “collaborative creativity” in dementia patients.

The innovative system won her joint first prize in the Royal Bank of Scotland Award for the best business case.

She shares her success with another talented student, Magdalena Borzecka, who designed a mobile 3D printer lab to help community groups which lack access to adequate equipmemt.

The pair split the £1000 prize, and both were awarded Fellowship of the RSA for a year,

Their tutor Linsey McIntosh said: “We’re very proud of their achievements and how they conducted themselves throughout the competition, displaying creative-thinking and passion.

“We now look forward to seeing how Helen and Magdalena take advantage of these great RSA opportunities and experiences in their final year work.”

The RSA Awards challenge emerging artists and designers to use dcraft and ingenuity to drive innovation.
