Help shape your village

The process - called a Charrette - is part of East Dunbartonshire Council’s ongoing support for the village and will run from March 11-14 in Campsie Memorial Hall.

The team will talk with the community and local groups to see how the area can be protected and, where required, revitalised.

The Memorial Hall will be converted into an open-to-all ‘design studio’ over the four days - with a team of designers, economists and others there to listen to people’s experience of using the village centre and their ideas.

People will be welcomed to the event on Friday, March 11, from 11am-7.30pm; Saturday, March 12, from 9am-7.30pm; Sunday, March 13, from 9am-7.30pm; and Monday, March 14, from 9am-12.30pm.

Councillor Alan Moir, the council’s convener of development and regeneration, said: “I am delighted that our ongoing efforts to support Lennoxtown have enabled us to secure funding for a Charrette in the village.

“The initiative provides a forum for ideas - giving everyone who takes part the chance to ensure their suggestions and needs inform future decisions.

“A similar exercise was undertaken in Kirkintilloch, with innovative work leading to the creation of a town centre masterplan.

“That helped to pave the way for significant investment in Kirkintilloch, with work currently underway to improve the streets and pavements.

“I hope the Lennoxtown Charrette will help to generate a similarly innovative community vision and action plan for change and improvement.”

He added: “The Charrette is a great opportunity to unite people from all walks of life with a wide range of stakeholders, designers and experts - working together to refine ideas and aspirations for the village.”
