The trueCall system, which can be set up on any domestic phone line, lets residents prevent unwanted calls without blocking genuine callers.

It can record all voice calls, log call data and can be set up to meet the needs of the individual householder.

Trading Standards officers have a number of trueCall systems available for people who have become plagued by unwanted calls - many of whom have lost money as a result of scammers.

The system will be fitted for a period of time to monitor and block the unwanted calls made to the resident’s telephone.

Ashay Ghai, the council’s convener of housing and community services, said: “This is a really positive initiative which could make a huge difference to the lives of those who take part.

“If you or someone you know could benefit from an opportunity to trial the trueCall system or if you care for someone who you think could be vulnerable to telephone marketing scams, then get in touch with Trading Standards for further information.”
