High school gets ‘excellent’ report

Inspectors have given Kirkintilloch High School’s curriculum an ‘EXCELLENT’ rating and praised the successful work done at the school in raising attainment with a focus on personal support.

Over the past four years staff at Kirkintilloch High have worked with primary schools on different areas of the curriculum.

As a result, young people are entering S1 with a better understanding of many subjects, which allows them to progress further.

There were further top marks for the school from Education Scotland when it was awarded ‘very good’ ratings for improvements in performance; learners’ experiences; meeting learning needs and improvement through self-evaluation.

Dr Alasdair Allan MSP, Minister for Learning, Science and Scotland’s Languages, visited the school before the holidays to congratulate staff and pupils.

He said: “There has been tremendous work taking place at Kirkintilloch High, which is clear from the very positive results in these recent inspections.

“I believe this reflects the commitment, drive and creative approaches of the school to achieve the best for its pupils.”

Kirkintilloch High School head teacher Eddie Muir said: “We have been working extremely hard to improve the life chances of all of our young people and to create a school of which pupils, parents, staff and the wider community are justifiably proud.

“As an aspirational and ambitious school we have fully embraced not only the principles and practices of Curriculum for Excellence, but have also demonstrated a strong commitment to high quality learning, and we are gratified to see that our commitment and efforts have been recognised and endorsed in this report.”

Councillor Eric Gotts, the council’s convener of education, said: “I am absolutely delighted that the school was evaluated in the curriculum as ‘excellent’ and I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the senior management team and the teaching staff on this fantastic achievement.”

Education Scotland’s Alastair Delaney said: “As our inspection shows, the school is clearly embracing the opportunities which the new curriculum presents.”
