The 143 youngsters were charged with finding a wild space to explore and conserve.

The pupils found a patch of wilderness on school grounds, and used maths knowledge to calculate the area, English to organise a treasure hunt, geography to record the weather and home economics to plant vegetables and herbs.

120 pupils then branched out to Pollok park, Pollokshaws Community Garden and a nearby nursery school, clearing away weeds and sprucing the area up for the benefit of the community.

Year head John Philbin said: “This has been a great experience for our pupils. They’ve really enjoyed learning and working outside.”
