History group set the record

The chairman of Croy Historical Society has spoken about the group’s current position after they lost their ‘home’ when a community centre in the village closed.

The News and Chronicle previously reported that the Croy Miners’ Welfare Charitable Society suddenly closed its doors back in April.

The facility served as a base for a large number of community groups including Croy Historical Society who previously stored their artefacts in the building.

And when it suddenly closed, Croy Historical Society were left without a home.

Seamus Coleman said: “Financially the historical society is in a healthy state and income is still being received from the number of talks and presentations which have been given and the others still in the pipline.

“It is disappointing still not knowing when we are likely, if at all, to have access to our facilities in the community centre.

“Our website will be updated very soon to publicise the situation and keep all informed.”

The group continue to meet in the Antonine Sports Hub at Croy Railway Station between 1pm and 3pm on the first and third Tuesdays of each month.
