Holocaust Education Trust receives £500,000

More than £500,000 is to be given to the Holocaust Educational Trust over two years to support the project Lessons from Auschwitz.

The programme has 
allowed hundreds of 
southside pupils to travel to the Auschwitz-Birkenau complex to gain first-hand knowledge of the Holocaust.

Georgia Lanigan, a former pupil at St Ninian’s high, went on the trip and has since returned to the school to share her experiences.

The 17-year-old said: “The organisation run the trip so well, making you experience so much in a day.

“They really manage to 
humanise the experience for you”

Stewart Maxwell MSP told The Extra: “It is imperative that future generations continue to learn from the lessons of the Second World War and remember the victims of the Holocaust.”

Eastwood MSP Ken Macintosh , who hosted a reception in the Scottish Parliament last week for the Holocaust Educational Trust, added: “I was given the opportunity to visit Auschwitz-Birkenau through an educational programme some 10 years ago.

“Their work is essential in ensuring the Holocaust has a permanent place in our collective memory.”
