A top charity total, if news from Holyrood Secondary is anything to go by.

After seeing them perform at a Youth Council networking event, students from the southside school were inspired by Scottish Pop Award winners Rachelle and Brittany Davies to give winnings from a recent competition — the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative school finale — to YoungMinds UK.

The Eaglesham girls are no strangers to headlines, having made The Extra in recent weeks for their award win and for a tweet of support from Rod Stewart for their first single, Shout Out, in aid of the charity.

Now, thanks to the efforts of Martin Gallacher, Scottish Youth Parliament member for Cathcart, and his teammates, YoungMinds is £3,000 richer.

The quartet have been researching, number crunching and interviewing people for weeks before making a presentation on where they thought the YPI money should go.

Martin said: “It was donated in memory of Heather, for Rachelle and Brittany’s friend who tragically took her own life a year ago.

“The emotion in the team was clear, and this was a topic that affected so many people in the room, in one way or another.”

The group teamed up with singers Rachelle and Brittany on Friday for the presentation and a heartfelt performance to 500 Holyrood pupils — the Holyrood team commented: “We loved every minute of the YPI project.”

Shout Out is available on iTunes and online music stores.
