Huge community action response during lockdown

East Dunbartonshire Voluntary Action (EDVA) says it has seen a massive upsurge in community activity and volunteers since the beginning of lockdown.

In association with partner agencies who run the OPAL Advice Line (Carers Link, Ceartas Advocacy and Citizens Advice), EDVA has established a shopping and prescription assistance service for people who are self-isolating and vulnerable.

The OPAL helpline is open seven days per week from 9am-5pm and can be contacted at 0141 438 2347.

EDVA is working closely with five local groups of volunteers located across the communities of East Dunbartonshire.

The local groups are also providing assistance to vulnerable people in their neighbourhood. EDVA is providing support to them by providing funding for volunteer expenses, advance payments for shopping, printing leaflets and other items.

The local groups are: Community Assistance Group for Bearsden/Milngavie; G66 COVID Response Group for Lenzie/Kirkintilloch; G64 COVID Help covering Bishopbriggs/Auchinairn, Milton of Campsie Community Group 2020 covering Milton of Campsie/Torrance/Lennoxtown and Twechar Healthy Living Centre, 01236 827154

In addition, 835 local people have registered to volunteer through the national Ready Scotland Volunteer scheme. This is a huge response, among the largest in Scotland. For more info, visit the EDVA website or email [email protected]
