The race has doubled in size since it’s first time last year and all places were sold out several weeks before.

The weather was superb with clear blue skies and the temperature up in the mid 20’s and while it may have been a bit too hot for some of the runners, the spectators in Lennox Park soaked up the sun.

The race was won for the second year in a row by local man Del Young of Garscube Harriers in a course record time of 52 mins 10 secs, over two minutes clear of 2nd place male Mark Ryan in a time of 54 mins 37 secs and third place male Nicholas Heaney of Garscube Harriers in a time of 54 mins 51 secs.

First place female went to Jennifer Rooney of Kilbarchan Athletics in a time of 1 hr 3 mins 12 secs, with Gillian Cairns of Penicuik Harriers in second place in a time of 1 hr 6 mins 31 secs and third place female was Angela Reid of North Ayrshire Athletic Club in a time of 1 hr 7mins 55 secs.

All the finishers were rewarded with a medal and a bottle of beer courtesy of local craft brewery Jaw Brew, a superb spread of home baking, tea and coffee was provided to ensure that no runner went home hungry.

Race Director Graeme Reid said: “We’ve had a fantastic response to our race again this year and it was great to involve so many members of our scout group in organising, baking, marshalling and generally helping out.

“We seem to have really found a race that ticks so many boxes with a challenging but manageable distance, some superb scenery and trails and a really friendly atmosphere. I’ve been deluged with messages of thanks from so many of the runners, all promising to come back again next year. It looks like this is going to become a real favourite on the race calendar.”

Although not yet confirmed, it is likely that The Milngavie Trail Race will return next year, same weekend, same trails and more cake.
