Hunt launched to find families of
VC war heroes

An appeal is being made by North Lanarkshire Council to trace relatives of war heroes awarded the Victoria Cross during WW1.

Six men achieved the distinction for their outstanding bravery and sacrifice during the Great War (1914 – 1918) and preparations are now being made to lay commemorative paving stones in their home towns, paid for by the council.

The Victoria Cross recipients born in North Lanarkshire have been identified as David Lauder from Airdrie, James Richardson from Bellshill, John Carmichael from Glenmavis, William Clamp from Motherwell, William Milne from Cambusnethan and John O’Neill from Airdrie.

A total of 628 Victoria Crosses were awarded during the First World War.
