Abtaha Maqsood is only 14 and a pupil at Eastwood High School, but she has become one of the nation’s Wildcats (the national team’s name).

The Newton Mearns lass was chosen after excelling with Glasgow’s Poloc cricket club and the Eastwood High team — where she played alongside the boys.

Abtaha has already played in two games for the side in which the team got beaten and won one of their games.#Now the pupil is hoping she will be aselected for the Wildcats’ game later this month against Derbyshire and Leicestershire.

Abtaha said: “It was a really great experience. I was the youngest there and it was my first cap, but everyone was really nice.

“They were very friendly and welcoming — it wasn’t intimidating at all. I hope I’ll be selected for the next matches in two weeks’ time.”
