Following the release of their newest album “Weem” earlier this year, the band have been working with Summerlee on new music inspired by the collections held by the museum and archives, and the stories of Lanarkshire’s industrial past.

Summerlee’s Learning and Access Coordinator David McDonald contacted the band with the intention of commissioning them to write a song inspired by the Lanarkshire visitor attraction.

He said: “I thought that the band might be able to sample the sounds made by the clanking machinery in the main exhibition hall, and use it to create a new song or two, but I was pleasantly surprised when they informed me that they planned to write several new tracks inspired by the collection at Summerlee.”

De Rosa frontman Martin Henry said the group were keen to get involved with the project.

He said: “The connection to Lanarkshire has always been an important part of our music, and this project has given us the opportunity to expand on these ideas.

“We’ve been visiting Summerlee and the North Lanarkshire Archive during the development of the new songs.

“We’ve been experimenting with using industrial artefacts as instruments and using a mix of written lyrics and spoken words from Summerlee’s audio archive in combination with our traditional band setup.

“The concert presents this unfinished project at a midway point, and will be a unique evening for De Rosa, the museum and our audiences in the fantastic museum building itself.”

Tickets cost £10 and must be booked in advance.
