Is Lanark Town Group under threat?

SPECULATION is rife that the once-controversial Lanark Town Group is close to being totally disbanded.

That is certainly the opinion of the town’s Community Council chairman Frank Gunning who fears that interest in the group – which now meets only three times a year – is waning.

Talking about its latest meeting, he said: “One of the most interesting aspects of the meeting was the diminishing interest in the group itself.”

However, a South Lanarkshire Council spokesman said: “There have been no discussions within the council in regard to the winding up of Lanark Town Group. It is expected that the group and attendees will evolve as projects are delivered and areas of focus change.”
