For some it will be the computer brand of play with Angry Birds and Candy Crush vying for the younger sets’ attention alongside the likes of The Sims and Call of Duty. Still others may cast their minds back to when the board was king and we would settle down to a game of Monopoly, Trivial Pursuits of Cluedo.

But for former Scotland Street school pupil, Stan Sewell, it brings to mind the games he and his contemporaries played in the school yard.

Stan was on hand when a group of children from Oakwood House nursery in Burnside dropped in for a visit and he was able to show the kids what he and his friends got up to in the school yard: and there wasn’t an iPhone in sight!

It was all part of the opening to a new exhibition at the former school, The Games We Play, which explores children’s games and play across different cultures through the ages.

The exhibition runs until September 7, so something to take te family to during the summer.
