Jack of hearts

Jack Moxen (12) has been selling treats from his doorstep in Community Road and raised over £2,000 for the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity.

Not only has he braved all weathers in aid of the cause, he and mum Donna were often in the kitchen until 1am baking.

Jack will be in surgery tomorrow (Thursday) at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children to receive a skin graft. He hopes the money raised can be used to make the stay of other patients more pleasant.

Jack said: “I was inspired by Nicholas McDonald, who is an ambassador for the hospital, I wanted to help the hospital before it helps me.

“I know I’ll only be in for three days, but there are other children who have to spend weeks and months on a ward so I hope the money can be used to make their stay better.”

Jack’s fundraising has spread across social media and he has been stunned at the response he’s had.

He said: “I can’t believe how generous people have been. For instance one guy gave me £100 for two bits of Swiss roll.

“Community Road isn’t a very central location, but word has definitely got out as people are coming from all over to see me.

“I never expected to raise over £2,000, but I couldn’t be happier I’m handing over so much.”

Jack will miss his first few days at Cardinal Newman High and can’t wait for life at secondary school.

He said: “I’m very excited, it’ll be a totally new experience and I’m particularly looking forward to home economics, music, maths and literacy.

“The school also has the Snapdragon restaurant which I’d love to be involved in and hopefully can help me with my dream of being a chocolatier.

“I love baking and I love chocolate so I can’t imagine a better job.”

Jack’s mum Donna was overwhelmed with the support her son received.

She said: “He’s done amazing, it was a lot of hard work, but he is the type who always wants to help people and I couldn’t be prouder of him.”
