Jobseekers to be helped by new shop

A NEW charity shop in Shawlands aims to lend a helping hand to unemployed young people.

Carol Smillie, the Pollokshields-based TV personality (of Changing Rooms and Postcode Lottery fame) launched the retail and furniture recycling unit on Friday.

In the outlet, high quality recycled donated products will be sold at affordable priced, to fund youth employment and voluntary work programmes for struggling southsiders.

The charity has worked with second and third generation unemployed in Scotland, helping them to turn their lives around .

A total of 80 per cent of those on their youth employability programme, Working It Out, eventually move into employment, further education and training.

The Shawlands shop, located at 118/122 Kilmarnock Road, will be the third in a number of stores to be rolled out nationally, thanks in part to help from corporate support J.P. Morgan.

Simon Branscomb, Chief Operating Officer at Tomorrow’s People said:“ Not only will this new initiative support our existing work, but the funds raised will help to change the lives of disadvantaged people in Scotland.”

Local residents and business can lend their support to Tomorrow’s People by donating all kinds of items to the shop.

Donations including furniture, electrical and household items, clothing and accessories, bric-a-brac, CDs, DVDs, games, musical instruments, books and toys are encouraged. Donations can be arranged by contact the team on 0845 8737 665.
