Joe Gardner is the next name in comedy

Joe Gardner is one of Scotland’s up and coming talents to watch with success almost guaranteed after winning the Class Clowns comedy competition at this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

The competition, which was judged by comedians Jo Brand and Kevin Day along with Gilded Balloon founder Karen Koren, where the event took place was a roaring success.

Class Clowns is the teenage version of So You Think You’re Funny?, the comedy competition which discovered Peter Kay, Tommy Tiernan, Jack Whitehall and Aisling Bea to name but a few.

With his Scotland’s Funniest Teenager title in the bag, Joe set up a Facebook page to promote his talents which attractedthe attention of BBC Radio Scotland who invited him onto the stationlast month where he spoke about his inspiration and hopes for the future.

Joe wasn’t shy at plugging his gigs at The Stand in Glasgow in 2016, who, rather amazingly are making exceptions to the licensing laws especially for him due to his age!

Not content with that, Joe has designed a format for a teenage comedy night, which will take place in Cafe GRO in Glasgow city centre.

The quest is now on for young people who are willing to give comedy a go. You must have your own material which will allow for a 5-10 minutes slot, however to help anyone interested refine their work, a workshop and pre-show Skype sessions will be on offer.

Joe said: “Once we get sufficient amounts of young people interested, we can make the nights more regular and get other, more experienced comedians to run the workshops.

“Young people really are the key to this. We would love to tour the project around the UK to different cities with different young people.”
