John Collins drops into Broadwood

A footballing legend visited Cumbernauld last week to have a kick about with players from a club that has achieved a top award from the SFA for its efforts to promote grassroots football.

John Collins enjoyed a training session with the Cumbernauld Colts on Monday, May 13, at Broadwood Stadium.

The former Celtic and Scotland players visited the club to help promote the 2013 Scottish FA Grassroots Awards, and to recognise the Colts achievement in gaining a Quality Mark Legacy status.

This is the highest award available through the Scottish FA, who recognises the club now has 22 teams playing week in week out all over the town.

Whilst at the club, John caught up with Cumbernauld Colts chairman Stewart McKenzie at their evening training session and met volunteers and players, before taking part in a question and answer session about his own grassroots career and his community heroes.
