John is set to contest seat for SNP in May General Election

The SNP candidate for East Dunbartonshire kick started his election campaign by canvassing on the streets of Milngavie last weekend.

John Nicolson says polls show the SNP as favourites to take the seat in the May 2015 General Election.

He told the Herald: “I’m delighted to be selected in my home constituency.

“It’s vital that voters in East Dunbartonshire return an SNP MP able to help negotiate a good deal for Scotland in the hung parliament which polls show is the most likely outcome in this May’s Westminster election.

“I look forward to debating with Jo Swinson across the constituency in the coming weeks. I’ll be challenging her voting record as an unwavering supporter or the Tory Lib Dem Coalition.”

John Nicolson worked as a journalist at the BBC before putting himself forward as a candidate for the Scottish National Party.

As the main presenter on BBC ‘Breakfast’ and reporter on various current affairs programmes such as ‘Panorama’, ‘Newsnight’, and ‘On the Record’, he has interviewed many politicians over the years.

Educated at Glasgow University he won a Kennedy Scholarship and was a Harkness Fellow at Harvard University.

LibDem Jo Swinson has held the seat in East Dunbartonshire since 2005.
