Activities include reading challenges to gaming tournaments and mask making to 3D scanning and printing. The programme is varied and exciting will something for every boy and girl to enjoy.

The reading challenge celebrates 100 years of the world’s favourite storyteller, Roald Dahl, and is entitled the Big Friendly Read (BFR). It’s running from Saturday 25 June to Saturday 20 August and kids of all ages can register at their local libraries to collect their BFR membership wallets and collect limited edition Quentin Blake collectors’ cards every time they read a book (there are six to collect). Throughout the summer there are Big Friendly Read activities held at your local library and Bookbug fun & rhyme sessions will be held for children aged 0 to 36 months.

And for Gaelic readers and learners there are Gaelic story telling activities too – including Tha Sinn a’ Dol a Shireadh Mathan!, An Gruffalo and a Gaelic Bookbug party.

The Holiday FABLAB for kids aged 8+ has various activities on offer. Youngsters can try their hand at coding at Code Club or combine their Lego making skills with Minecraft at Minecraft v Lego. There are also traditional craft workshops in ceramics, cardboard aeroplanes and chalkboard design.

The children & young people’s creative summer programme is for children aged 7-9 years and some of the exciting activities include mask making, filming techniques and a FIFA 16 Gaming tournament.

For older children, aged 12 and above, there are workshops in 3D Scanning and printing and pixelated pictures – no experience is necessary so it’s a great introduction to this type of new media.

Chair of EDLC Trust, Councillor Anne Jarvis, said, “Once again the Trust has put together a very exciting and varied programme to keep children amused during the summer holidays.

“Not only is there a range of activities to encourage young people to delve into some good books – there is also plenty in the way of creative and new media workshops. Whilst some of the activities are free, some have a small charge and it is advisable to book before attending.

“Check the website for more details on how to book and reserve a place so that your kids don’t miss out.”
