Kilmardinny House project proceeds

The landmark agreement was reached between East Dunbartonshire Council, development partner hub West Scotland and contractor Clark Contracts.

Construction work is expected to begin in early May and is set to complete in late December 2016.

The December 2015 Planning Board approved the proposal to create a new garden pavilion extension, which will provide a modern, flexible space and enhance the venue as a centre for local arts, performance and community groups. It will also create a modern, flexible space that can be used for a range of activities including performances, exhibitions, conferences and weddings.

The existing popular Category A listed House will be partially refurbished, both inside and out, including redecoration and some repairs to external stonework and windows.

Councillor Alan Moir, convener of the Council’s Development & Regeneration Committee, said: “This is great news for Bearsden, and East Dunbartonshire as a whole, and will see major investment in the town.

“Kilmardinny House is a well-established and much loved local asset that is well used by many groups and organisations. I am delighted this very exciting project will go ahead and we look forward to seeing it take shape in the coming months?”

Councillor Anne Jarvis, Chair of EDLC Trust added: “This exciting project promises to breathe new life into Kilmardinny House as a venue of choice for the 21st century and will make it an even more attractive venue for events, weddings and conferences and add to its popularity.”
