Kilsyth paedophile shamed online as footage clocks up record numbers

The situation unfolded midweek at Airdrie Road bus stop when Gill Martin clocked Rennie Road resident Brian Docherty.

Docherty (51) hit headlines last week when we revealed online that he had been convicted of abusing two young girls.

Yet his tale would be played out online to an even wider audience when footage of the set-to was put on Facebook.

That was viewed more than 140,000 times and shared thousands of times.

Since then, a national newspaper has secured the footage for its own website and this is now being viewed worldwide.

The story has also commanded a double-page spread in the newspaper itself.

Viewers have seen Docherty’s lack of engagement with the camera until the footage reaches its end, when he mutters an obscenity towards the woman and appears to wipe tears from his eyes.

North Lanarkshire Council like all local authorities has an obligation to re-house sex offenders in the community but it was unclear if they had been dealing with Docherty, amidst claims in the film that he had to leave Rennie Road.

A spokesman said: “We cannot comment on individual cases.’’

Inspector Phil Rose of Cumbernauld Police said he was aware of the video and added: “Keeping people safe is our main priority in all cases.”

Docherty will be sentenced at Airdrie Sheriff Court next month.
