Kiltwalkers are off on the right foot

The 22-strong Team SiMBA is led by Joanne Docherty, and includes Clarkston girls Elaine Carberry, Julie Johnstone, Mairi Gallagher, Eilidh Colligan and Emma Jane Murdoch (pictured from left).

The group are banding together to tackle the five full Scottish Kiltwalks taking place this year, in Glasgow (this Sunday), Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Speyside and Dundee.

Team leader Joanne, also from Clarkston, and teammate Emma will also be trekking Machu Picchu in September.

All that effort is in aid of the Kiltwalk’s partner charities, and for SiMBA, which provides memory boxes for bereaved parents.

The team share a touching message on their sponsorship page, which reads: “Sadly, we all know too many angels in the sky, but this charity has been of great support to friends and family and we wanted to give back.

“On behalf of Team SiMBA and the Kiltwalk, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you.”

Fundraising runs in the family for Joanne, whose daughter Shauna (12) featured in The Extra recently after getting her hair cut off for the Little Princess Trust — and to fundraise for mum’s trek.

The Kiltwalk is next on the agenda, followed by a fundraising night at the Admiral Bar on May 2 (tickets £10, available from [email protected]), with prizes donated by southside businesses (and choose your decade fancy dress optional).

Team SiMBA have raked in £3,200 already — setting them off on the right foot towards a £10,000 target.
