Kim is a Young ambassador

Kim Wilson was chosen to represent East Renfrewshire as part of the new Scotland’s Young Ambassadors for Inclusion programme developed by Education Scotland.

Through the programme, young people who face barriers to education will be given a voice at a national level to help make a significant impact in raising awareness of the issues around additional support needs and inclusive education.

Kim met with her fellow Ambassadors for their first meeting on December 8 where they discussed their experiences of inclusive education and how they have benefited from having the right support in place.

The meeting hosted by Education Scotland also provided the opportunity for Kim to share her views of the support provided by teachers and classmates, their learning environment, and give their perspective on how additional support for learning can be further improved.

Kim said: “It was a really great experience to get an insight into inclusive education across Scotland. I particularly enjoyed talking to other pupils about their experiences in relation to issues in inclusion in school. I am looking forward to similar events in the future in my ambassadorial role.”

Mr Willie Inglis, Headteacher at Williamwood High School, said: “We could not be more proud of Kim’s achievements in school and we are delighted that she has had the opportunity to be an ambassador for East Renfrewshire Council. I hope that her success will be an inspiration to others.”

Lesley Brown, Education Scotland’s Strategic Director for Families, Inclusion and Local Authorities, said: “We are delighted to launch Scotland’s Young Ambassadors for Inclusion programme and look forward to working with Kim and her fellow Ambassadors.

The group will work together to share experiences of inclusive education and act as a ‘voice’ at a national level.”

So far, 21 Ambassadors have been chosen to represent their local authority.
