Kirkin’ of the Lord Cornet-elect on video

The Pipes of Lanark and District escorted Lord Cornet-elect Stephen Pillans to St Nicholas Church on Sunday.

He was accompanied by past Cornets and local dignitaries,to the Kirkin’ ceremony, which kicked off the Lanimer celebrations. Stephen, as the Burgh’s Lord Cornet or standard bearer, was responsible for ensuring that the boundaries, or march stones, were intact.

The task is said to date back to 1140 when, it is believed, King David granted Lanark a Royal Charter.
