Reverend Frank Haughton arrived at St Mary’s Parish Church in 1947, after starting his ministry in Ayrshire and then moving to Kirkcaldy.

The Glasgow University and Trinity College graduate, who became only the third minister of St Mary’s since the church was founded in 1893, quickly involved himself in all areas of parish life - including founding the church’s Boys’ Brigade Company in 1959.

He retired on September 2, 2000, but still continued to worship at the church and remained a well-known figure in the community.

Reverend Haughton passed away on Sunday, March 31, at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

A memorial service will be held at St Mary’s Parish Church this Sunday, April 7, at 3pm.

A tribute to Reverend Haughton will appear in next week’s Kirkintilloch Herald.
