Kirkintilloch motorcyclist killed in crash

Calum McMorrin, 24, of Kirkintilloch, died at the scene of the accident after his Yamaha bike crashed with a car driven by a 39-year-old woman.

Calum had been on the A710 in Dumfries on Sunday when the accident happened.

Police and emergency services raced to the scene at around 3pm but he could not be saved. The woman who was driving the BMW was uninjured.

Officers said Calum’s family had been told of the tragedy and issued an appeal for witnesses to come forward as well as any motorists who may have recorded dash-cam footage to contact them.

A full report will also be forwarded to the procurator fiscal.

Sergeant Paul Dodds from the Divisional Road Policing Unit at Castle Douglas Police Office said: “Enquiries are continuing into this crash and I would ask anyone who witnessed the incident, or who was driving on the A710 near to Mainsriddle, Southerness, Dumfries around the time of the crash to contact police as they may have information that will assist our investigation.

“I would also appeal to anyone who was travelling on the A710 prior to the collision occurring who has a dash-cam fitted to their vehicle, to contact us as this may also help us establish the circumstances which led to the crash.”

Wellwishers took to social media to pay tribute to Calum.

Katie Brown wrote: “Another young one lost to these roads, terrible news, rip xxx.”

Sandy Stevenson added: “I wish they would upgrade the roads in this country they are so dangerous.

“Too narrow for the size of the vehicles using them and also the council doesn’t help by not keeping the vegetation away from the roads to give a clear view around corners.”

Richard Girdwood said: “My condolences to the family.”

Catherine Dalgliesh added: “So sad.”
