Mum Megan posted on the site: “Spirit Aid, do amazing work all year round for people and families in need across Glasgow - but have a special appeal just now because of the current circumstances.

“I am tracking Aiden’s daily run and we will keep a wee record every day! All donations big and small will be very much appreciated”.

Ian Stretton of Spirit Aid told the Herald: We were delighted to see a fundraising page appear on Just Giving set up by Aiden’s mum Megan where young Aiden is running a mile a day in May and donating the money to Spirit Aid.

“In the first five days he raised over £1600 with every penny being spent on buying food for our food parcels.

“What a wonderful thing Aiden is doing. We really want to thank him and his mum Megan and hope it inspires others to raise money for their favourite charities during this period.”

The volume of requests Spirit Aid are receiving during the current Covid-19 crisis is unprecedented, they say.

A spokesperson for the charity added: “There is no way to sugar coat it. We need your help... we need your money. As a charity, we will always try to help those who truly need it but there will come a point where we will be unable to.

“All of our fundraising activity, including the Kiltwalk, has been cancelled.

“We have no way of raising any income to support
our work from the usual routes.

“Spirit Aid, along with other charities like the Clutha Trust, act as a help hub for many other small charities, providing them with food, clothing and financial assistance when required.

“We need your help to make sure that we can continue to support those in our society that need it most.

“If you are in a position to make a donation, no matter how small, that donation will make a huge difference to so many.”
