Kirsty Robson a ‘Holocaust Ambassador’, had visited the concentration camp as part of the Holocaust Educational Trust’s programme to educate young people about the atrocities of the Holocaust.

In his speech to the Commons, Mr Masterton noted the incredible contribution of Kirsty to the Holocaust Educational Trust and ended his speech by quoting Kirsty on why she thought it important to remember such events: “I am steadfast in my belief that we must learn from the mistakes and heartaches of our past, take note of the contemporary relevance of such events and ensure that the world we are shaping is one of acceptance and kindness, free of persecution and prejudice.”

Mr Masterton also attended an event earlier this week hosted by Kirsty at Barrhead High School. ‘Tea with a Refugee’ featured two Holocaust Survivors and a refugee, who discussed their stories and experiences, drawing comparisons between their lives.

Last week, he also signed the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Book of Commitment, in doing so pledging his commitment to Holocaust Memorial Day and honouring those who were murdered during the Holocaust as well as paying tribute to the extraordinary Holocaust survivors who work tirelessly to educate young people today.

Mr Masterton said: “As Kirsty put so well, it is vital that each generation learns from the mistakes of the one that came before it.

“The Holocaust shows us what the worst of humanity can produce. We must never forget the horrors of the past, and the great work of Kirsty and all at the Holocaust Educational Trust will ensure we will always remember.”
