Lanark family appear in Homes Under The Hammer

FAMILY firm Brooks in Lanark got more than they bargained for when Robert Brooks won a shop and flat in an auction.

Being right between the ladieswear and menswear shops the family business already runs in High Street, the shop obviously interested them; and the large flat above it was part of the auction lot.

But the bidding was being watched by a researcher for BBC’s Homes Under the Hammer, and two members of the younger generation of the family firm, which dates back to the 1870s, then agreed to take part in the programme.

Alastair and Gill, who work in the High Street shops, were shown discussing what they planned to do with the new property, latterly Clarks’ shoeshop, and with the flat above it.

They were first visited over three years ago, and programme makers returned in September to see the progress. The latest programme went out on Wednesday.

The new shop is not quite ready, but is expected to open next month as a shoe shop.

However, the flat above it has been renovated, and Alastair is moving in there himself.
