Lanark Loch set to lose its public toilet

NEAR-disbelief and outrage have greeted the news that Lanark’s biggest visitor attraction – the Loch – is to lose its only public lavatory.

As previously reported, the ageing toilet block at the lochside has been closed, awaiting South Lanarkshire Council to repair it.

It has taken so long getting that job started that the building is beyond saving and will be demolished, probably in the autumn.

This news was greeted with anger at the latest meeting of Lanark Community Council which had been pushing South Lanarkshire Council to get on with the repairs; it had been told earlier this year that the toilets WOULD be restored for use by this summer.

However, it now seems that they will never re-open and loch users will have to rely on the ongoing gesture of goodwill of the adjoining Inn on the Loch which has allowed non-customers to use its lavatories since last summer.
