Lanark Memorial Hall building is granted drinks licence

THE long-awaited re-opening of Lanark’s Memorial Hall has taken one important step closer with the building being granted a drinks licence.

However, because, even four and a half years after its closure for massive refurbishment, a definite re-opening date STILL cannot be given, that licence is only a stop-gap ‘provisional’ one.

With South Lanarkshire Council spending over £5 million transforming the 1920s building, it was hardly surprising that the councillors who make up the Clydesdale Area Licensing Board unanimously granted on Friday the permit to sell drink to the hall’s operators, South Lanarkshire Leisure Ltd, itself an ‘arms-length’ organisation formed by the council to run its halls and other entertainment and sports facilities.
