Lanark's Lanimer Winter Parade - video

Lanark High Street was packed with families last night (Friday) for the astonishing spectacle of the illuminated Lanimer Winter Parade.

"It is amazing that a wee town like Lanark can produce something like this," commented one spectator as the creations which, originally formed part of the Lanimer procession in June were reborn sparking with Christmas lights.

Lord Cornet Gordon Jess on horseback, and ex Lord Cornets led the parade, accompanied by a large number of riders from the Equi Centre, and by Lanark and District Pipe Band.

Lanimer Queen Morgan Shillan, followed in a horse-drawn carriage. with chief maids, Eve Hamilton and Hannah Pollock.

Entrants with illuminated lorries were Pebble Patch with May the Force Be With You; St Mary’s Primary School with Fiesta Espanola; New Lanark Primary with A Place Called Space; The Broons with Out of Africa; The Bowrie Gang on the Road to Rio; Border Biscuits with Borders Big Top; and the Kilninie Club with Greece Lightning.

Bathgate Brass Band belted out Christmas carols on the way down and up the High Street, while Santa brought up the rear in his Gouldings Christmas train, to round off a stunning parade.
