Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, this year’s parade will be even bigger and better.

Starting at 6.30pm, the parade will feature seven of the entrants from this year’s Lanimer procession in a parade of illuminated lorries from Ladyacre Road down to the Cross.

Lord Cornet Gordon Jess, on horseback, will lead the parade, with some ex-lord cornets supporting him.

“I’m looking forward to riding with the burgh standard again at our fantastic night-time parade,” said Gordon. “It will be bigger and brighter than last year.”

The cornets will be followed by Lanark and District Pipe Band, then young Morgan Shillan, the girl crowned Lanimer Queen in June, and her chief maids, Eve Hamilton and Hannah Pollock.

Entrants with illuminated lorries are Pepple Patch, St Mary’s Primary School, New Lanark Primary, The Broons - whose Out of Africa took the Silver Bell in the Lanimer procession in June, Border Biscuits, and the Kilninie Club. Bathgate Brass Band will also be taking part.

Lantern holders will come from Lanark and Kirkfieldbank schools, and there will be a visit from Santa Claus, on Gouldings Winter Wonderland Land Train, bringing real reindeer with him.

“It should be a magical parade,” Lanimer chairwoman Loraine Swan said this week.

“Like Topsy, it has been growing and growing, and it has doubled in size from last year.”
