Lanimer drinking issue “overruled by polis”

THE wishes of the people of Lanark on the Lanimer Day public drinking issue have been “overruled by the polis”.

That was the way the town’s Community Council chairman Frank Gunning summed up his feelings about the decision two weeks ago of South Lanarkshire Council to go ahead with banning drinking in public places during the annual celebrations, doing away with the tradition of annually suspending the bylaw prohibiting this for 24 hours.
